Sheltered Employment

 

Persons who qualify for Sheltered Employment are assigned to the Johnstown or Ebensburg Work Center where they are employed in manufacturing. The Johnstown Work Center employs up to 125 people in Dietary, Sewing, Mining and Sub-contract Departments; the Ebensburg work center employs up to 125 people in the manufacture of Mining and Sewing products. The Dietary employees assemble food service kits, including special dietary restriction kits for hospitals and other institutions in the United States. They are trained for both hand and machine assembly. The Sewing employees cut and fabricate materials for institutional wear and supplies for industrial, federal and state applications. Mining employees produce a number of materials for industrial use, including mining hooks, hangers, cable supports and safety products. Sub-contract employees work in a variety of areas including sorting, assembly and packaging of various products.
